Working towards evidence-based reablement approaches across aged care services

AAG held a workshop on the topic of reablement in November 2018 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.  The aim was to stimulate thinking about what reablement and wellness mean in aged care, and whether there are different training and resourcing requirements for short and longer-term reablement goals.

The workshop showed that there is a lack of consistency and consensus about what reablement and wellness mean in the Australian aged care context, as well as a lack of consensus about how reablement approaches are delivered in practice.

This report provides a summary of workshop participant discussions to two specific topics.

Discussion Topic 1- Combining short- and long-term approaches to reablement

Discussion Topic 2- What is actually the difference between reablement and wellness in practice? Are these two terms useful?
